Mrs. Mary Ellen Sterling Clements, 86, of Gloucester, died Sunday, June 18, 1972.
She was the widow of John Lloyd Clements. A member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for 36 years, she was a Sunday School teacher there for more than 40 years and a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the church.
She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Derwood Parker of Gloucester, Mrs. E. Ralph Robbins of Clay Bank, Mrs. Sadie C. Coates of Glass and Mrs. Neil H. Ness of San Diego, Calif.; two sons, Lloyd Graham Clements of Gloucester and Thomas Etheridge Clements of Pocomoke City, Md.; two sisters, Mrs. Alice S. Deal of Naxera and Mrs. N. B. Etheridge of Norfolk; two brothers, John A. Sterling, Sr. of Nasera(sic) and Thomas J. Sterling of Norfolk; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Mt. Zion Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert Taylor, pastor of the Gloucester-Mathews United Methodist Charge.
Pallbearers were David Clements, Charles Clements, Luther Soles, Robert Soles, Aaron Abernathy, and Donald Wilson.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
