On December 10, 1912, Susan married John M. Turner, from Canoe, Kentucky. In September, 1913 she gave birth to a daughter, and they called her Byrd.
In May of 1914, Susan died, probably of Typhoid Fever, while she was a young mother, and her daughter was only 8 months old. John Turner gave their child, Byrd, to her maternal grandparents to raise, since Theodocia was better equipped to feed the baby, as she was currently breastfeeding a baby of her own, William Woodrow.
