He was a son of Kathleen Patton Gibson Booker and the late J.R. Gibson. Also preceding him in death was his step father, Donald Booker.
He was a 1960 graduate of Swain County High School and attended Western Carolina University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from 1961 to 1965.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are brother, Sam Gibson of Bryson City; sisters, Kathy Crossley of Simpsonville, S.C., Rita Lamb of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Beth Smith of Salem, S.C. He is also survived by several aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was employed by Solar Com in Georgia.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Bryson City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to American Cancer Society.
The family will receive friends at the home of Kathleen Booker in Bryson City following the services.
