Gloria Anne Carlock, 69, of 10 Elk Court, Washington, Ill., died at 8:32 p.m. Monday, March 19, 2007, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 28, 1937, in Peoria, Ill., to Glen Wood and Lillian A. Sauber McKinney, she married Ronald D. Carlock nearly 50 years ago on June 29, 1957, in Creve Coeur, Ill. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Alisa (Denny) Klein, and one son, Darren Carlock, both of Washington; one sister, Barbara (Jim) Smiley of Arvada, Colo.; one brother, Daniel (Georgia) McKinney of Deland, Fla.; one aunt, Ione Breedlove of Osteen, Fla.; five grandchildren, Kyle, Kelsey, Emily, Cole and Karly; three nephews; and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Gloria grew up in Washington and East Peoria, and was a 1955 graduate of East Peoria High School. She also graduated from Illinois State University in 1975 with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and certification in special education.

After teaching for 17 years, she retired in 1993, from District 50 in Washington, where she taught Early Childhood Special Education, first grade, and also kindergarten. She previously had a private kindergarten at Sundoer School in Washington and had run a private pre-school in her Washington home. She also worked in the advertising department at Caterpillar Tractor Co.

She was active in the Peoria Park District Ladies Line-Dancing Group at Lakeview for 12 years. For more than 15 years, Gloria made numerous close friends through her Ladies Leisure Group.

She was a member of Crossroad United Methodist Church in Washington, where she participated in the Social Concerns Group and volunteered at the summer Bible School program.

Gloria was a devoted grandmother and cherished the time spent with her five grandchildren.

Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery in Washington.
