MOUNDRIDGE — Dorothy Boeckner, 80, died Tuesday (Aug. 4, 2009) at Moundridge Manor in Moundridge.
She was born on June 7, 1929, in Montezuma to John W. and Ida Unruh Giesbrecht. She was a homemaker. She married Wilbur Boeckner on Aug. 14, 1949, in Montezuma. He survives of Moundridge. Other survivors include sons, Eldon Boeckner of Hartley, Texas, and Gary (Karen) Boeckner of Hesston; daughters, Phyllis (Charles) Nightengale of Scott City and Bonnie (Tim) Wiggers of Halstead; brothers, Vernon Giesbrecht of Montezuma and Frank Giesbrecht of Louisville, Ga.; sisters, Frances Koehn and Susie Nickel, both of Montezuma, Leona Ensz of Louisville, and Evelyn Unruh and Mary Ann Dirks, both of Blossom, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and one granddaughter, Heidi Boeckner.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in rural Hesston. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Moundridge Funeral Home and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to Moundridge Manor in care of the funeral home.

Dorothy Boeckner was born to John and Ida Unruh Giesbrecht on June 7, 1929, at Montezuma, Kansas. She peacefully passed away at the Moundridge Manor on August 4, 2009, at the age of eighty years.

In early childhood, she moved from Kansas to Colorado and back again, giving herself for the welfare of the family during the difficult Depression years. Her parents taught her the rewards of a solid work ethic as well as the principles of faith, which she embraced and practiced all her life.

At the age of thirteen, she responded to the call of God and was converted. Min. David J. Koehn baptized her into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on January 14, 1942, at Montezuma, Kansas. She was faithful to these vows until death. She carried a deep appreciation for the saving faith, freely practicing and sharing her values with her family and friends. She loved to garden, and her touch for beauty and cleanliness was a personal trademark, an endeavor to turn life into a paradise despite its many challenges. She met disappointments with courage and compassion.

On August 14, 1949, she married me, Wilbur Boeckner, at Montezuma, Kansas. We enjoyed a blessed life together, ten days short of sixty years. She was always grateful for the provisions of life, which she showed with respect and affection. To this union were born four children. Each of us children and grandchildren were a special treasure to Mother. Her care and prayers for our salvation and well-being were as abundant as the water she put so abundantly on the flowers in her yard. In later years, she bore the sufferings from rheumatoid arthritis and its complications without complaint and an exemplary faith in God.

Left to mourn her passing are her loving husband, Wilbur, Moundridge, Kansas; sons: Eldon, Hartley, Texas, and Gary and wife, Karen, Hesston, Kansas; daughters: Phyllis and husband, Charles Nightengale, Scott City, Kansas, and Bonnie and husband, Tim Wiggers, Halstead, Kansas; brothers: Vernon Giesbrecht and wife, Opal, Montezuma, Kansas; and Frank Giesbrecht and wife, Darlene, Louisville, Georgia; sisters: Frances Koehn and Susie Nickel, both of Montezuma, Kansas; Lenora and husband, Leon Ensz, Louisville, Georgia; Evelyn and husband, Bob Unruh; and Mary Ann and husband, Calvin Dirks, all of Blossom, Texas; brothers-in-law: Bob Boeckner and wife, Arlene, Macon, Mississippi; Don Boeckner and wife, Janis, Greeley, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Virginia Wenger, Moundridge, Kansas; Verda Giesbrecht, Montezuma, Kansas; Ruby Unruh, Copeland, Kansas; and Marjorie Boeckner, Hays, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
One granddaughter, one brother, two sisters, and five brothers-in-law preceded her in death.

The funeral was held on August 7, 2009, at the Meridian Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Hesston, Kansas. Officiating were ministers Eldon Wenger, Franklin Wenger, and Shawn Giesel. The burial was in the Meridian Church Cemetery.
