Farmer, shoemaker, textile factory worker. Oldest child of WARD N. STONE and MARY ACKERT STONE. Husband of MARGARET DEMARE STONE. Father of PHILIP NELSON STONE, EVELYN C. STONE WARRINER, DAVIS HANDY STONE, KATHERINE BELLE STONE DECELLES, CHARLES HOBSON STONE, and SUSAN TRACY RICE STONE BARBER. Played the violin; used to play for square dances in his younger days.

Lived in Peru, Mass. (1858-1880+), Nyack, NY (1886-1891+), Hinsdale, Mass. (1889), Cummington, Mass. (1898-1900), Plainfield, Mass. (1902-1910), Pittsfield, Mass. (1914), Easthampton, Mass. (1920; 1931-32) Northampton, Mass. (daughter Evelyne Warriner's home, 1930), and West Springfield, Mass. (daughter Susan Barber's home, 1933-1946).

He spent his final 13 years living with his daughter Susan (Mrs. Alfred Barber) and her family at 21 Silver Street in West Springfield, Massachusetts. He died there after an illness lasting over two years, on Sunday, 4 August 1946, at 5:15 p.m. He was 88 years old and the cause of death was cholemia due to carcinoma of the head of the pancreas, and hypertensive heart disease.

According to obituaries, his three sons and three daughters were alive at the time of his death, as was his half-sister, Elizabeth Stone Esterbrook of East Providence, Rhode Island. His wife had died in 1923.

His funeral was held at the Toomey funeral home, 1069 [or 1065] Westfield St., W. Springfield, Mass., on Tuesday, 6 August, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Emery Wallace officiating.

He was buried Tuesday, 6 August 1946, in Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence/Northampton, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, Section E, Lot 42, Justin B. Warriner lot; rear half of lot transferred to Mrs. Alfred Barber in 1950.
