John McQuillan, age 26, born 1840 in County Louth, Northern Ireland. with wife Sarah Gavin, age 24 born 1843 Northern Ireland. Together with their infant baby daughter Margaret " Maggie " McQuillan, born 1865 in Ireland. Boarded the Ship S.S. Queen in 1866. Sailing from Liverpool, England, arriving Port of New York on August 23, 1866. Place of Origin, Ireland.

Settled in:
Shortsville, Manchester, Ontario County, New York. Upon arrival he filed his naturalization papers in Ontario County in 1968. Worked at a paper mill in Shortsville, New York.

Daughter, Margaret "Maggie," McQuillan, born 1865 in Ireland.

Son James McQuillan, born November 1866. James was the first of John McQuillan's children to be born a U.S. citizen.

Then in 1868 other son John Edward McQuillan.

By October of 1869 another son Lawrence McQuillan. was born.

By the 1870 census they already have four children.

Another daughter born May 1871 which they named Mary McQuillan.

A son born named Mark McQuillan, year 1872.

Daughter Sarah McQuillan, born 1874.

By May 18, 1876 a son Venantius McQuillan.

Born 1877, Thomas McQuillan.

Son born April 09, 1879 Philip Findley McQuillan.

Son Peter McQuillan, born 1880.

Daughter Jane Francis McQuillan, born March 08, 1885.

Eleven of their children was born in Shortsville, Manchester, Ontario County, New York.

The funeral of John Mcquillan, a well known - citizen of this village, who died at his home on Sheldon Street. After a long illness. Mass held at Saint Dominic Church. By Rev. Father Evangeline of Saint Bernard's Seminary.


Survived by his wife Sarah Gavin McQuillan,

Five grown sons and a daughter.

Son James McQuillan, of Lyons.

Son John Edward McQuillan, of Jersey City, New Jersey.

Son Venantius McQuillan of Dover New Jersey.

Son Mark McQuillan, of Shortsville, New York.

Son Philip Findley McQuillan. United States Army Signal Corps, Alaska. Wife Gladys Blanche Nichols.
Daughter of John E. Nichols and Nellie Grace Roberts.

Daughter Jane Francis McQuillan, of Shortsville, New York.

Brother Patrick McQuillan, of County Louth, Ireland.

Two Sister's Mary Ann McQuillan Russell. And

Bridget McQuillan O'Keefe, of Canandaigua New York.

Brother's in Law Matthew Russell.

And Patrick O'Keefe.


Six of his children presided him in death.

Son Lawrence McQuillan, age five died 1874.
