He was born in New Castle, the son of Ralph and Gayle (Saffer) Bainter Watts. Mr. Bainter grew up in Blountsville, IN. Tom married Mary (Lafferty) Bainter on, April 27, 1996, in Muncie.
Tom had been a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps just prior to Vietnam.
He worked for Indiana Steel and Wire in both capacities of Management and Labor retiring in 1998 after 38 years of service.
He was a member of the United Steel Workers Union where he had served as President for one term.
Tom's interest included motorcycle riding and his membership in the Blue Knights motorcycle club.
Tom belonged to the Am Vets Post 12, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 651, Abate, and was a life member of Fraternal Order of Police Post 87.
Survivors include his wife of 12 years Mary Bainter, Muncie; one son, Tony Bainter, Muncie; one daughter, Shonda Bainter (partner, Jan Boram) Seymour; two step sons, Brian Thompson (friend, Pam Woods) Glouster, VA, and Mark Thompson, Muncie; his mother, Gayle Watts, New Castle; three brothers, Kevin (wife, Marsha) Bainter, Greenfield, Bruce Bainter, New Castle, and Marise (wife, JoAnne) Bainter, Mooreland; four grandchildren, Coby Bainter, Jake Bainter, Markus Thompson, and Lauryn Thompson.
He was preceded in death by by his father.
A private graveside service will be held at Beech Grove Cemetery with Military Honors being provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association.
