Charity (Cope) Baldwin, d/o Samuel & Deborah (Parke) Cope, was married to Caleb Baldwin with whom she had four children: Deborah; Samuel; John; and Jonathan C. Baldwin.

The American Republican, West Chester, Chester County, Pa.
September 15, 1840

Departed this life on the 29th ultimo, Charity Baldwin, in the 87th year of her age- a member of the religious society of Friends. Her remains were interred at Downingtown on the 31st, attended by a very large concourse of people, who had assembled to pay this last tribute of respect to the character of the deceased- But it is due to her memory that the many virtues which endeared her to her numerous friends and connexions (sic) should receive something more than a passing notice at our hands. Her career through life, altho' plain and unostentatious, was one of much usefulness and extensive charity. A uniform and consistent member of the society of Friends through a long life, her influence was always felt in the promotion of peace and union around the community in which she lived. Her native goodness of heart always led her to feel the most lively interest in the success and prosperity of the young and rising generation. To the poor she was ever a kind friend and charitable neighbor, and none knew but to respect her. Thousands have lived and died who have done more, but few who have done better the Charity Baldwin.
