He was a generous man, a clear thinker with a judicial mind, and he was regarded as an authority in all practical matters. During his whole life he was a leading man in his immediate section of the country. He was a strict Baptist with the most rigid principles, a deacon during all his later life. He had a tall, powerful frame, an excellent specimen of the best Puritan type.

LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF DANIEL AXTELL

I Daniel Axtell of the township of Russia County of Lorain State of Ohio being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and transitory life do therefore make publish and declare this
to be my last will and testament that is to say after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged the residue of my estate both real and personal give bequeath and dispose of as follows, (he said) to my love and wife, one third of the land and appurtenances thereon. Usury as drive ~ part of lot no. seventeen situated in the aforesaid township county & state together with three cows, six sheep and one horse and carriage during her natural life Also the household furniture—which I am now in possession of I give and bequeath to her for her to dispose of as she may deem proper and after her death I give and bequeath the above mentioned land appurtenances and all personal property together with residue of my estate both real and personal to my son Augustus E Axtell who is to come into possession of the sum at my death and pay off the following legacies according to the warrant of this my last will and testament by yearly payments of one hundred dollars verbal with annualized thereon to be divided among the heirs proportioned to their scheduled sum. To my sons Daniel, Almon M and Marquis D Axtell one hundred and fifty eight Dollars To my sons Osmyn P , Addison A, Manley W and

For my daughters Nancy J and Roxana F fifty eight Dollars and for the house of my daughter Fanny fifty eight dollars to be laid, back for them for their exclusive benefit. To the heir of my daughter Marian A Eight dollars. For my daughter, Huldah C Fifty eight-dollars and also a home while she may remain single together with one bureau six chairs one table bedding and bedstead and a set—of dishes for housekeeping. ??? is I make constitute and appoint my son Augustus E Axtell executor of this my last will and testament hereby voiding all former wills by me made for witness whereof I have here made subscribed my name and affixed my seal this Twentieth day of March In the year of our Lord one thousand eight—Hundred and fifty five
