During the War of the Revolution, he served in Lieut. Whiting's Co. in the march to Ticonderoga in June of 1775. From Oct. 5 to 31, 177 he was in Whiting's regiment of militia which went to Peekskill and Fishkill, New York, and in 1779, Captain Joseph Birdseye fought to repell the invasion of Tryon.
A large amount of gun powder was stored in one of his farm buildings, which was struck by lightening. Nobody was hurt by the explosion, which Capt. Birdseye attributed to the protection of Almighty God.
His monument in the White Hill's Cemetery was erected by his great-grandson, Isaac W. Birdseye, of Bridgeport. He died at 77 years of age.
