Lawrence Dean "Larry" Lang, 84, died May 24, 2007, at Hutchinson Hospital.

He was born April 23, 1923, in Pendennis, the son of Charles "Dee" and Melinda "Dorothy" Warnken Lang. He grew up on the family farm in Lane County and had been a longtime Hutchinson resident. He was a mechanic in his early years and drove for Santa Fe Truck Lines from 1948 until his retirement in 1981.

He belonged to the Teamsters Local No. 795, Wichita, American Legion Lysle Rishel Post No. 68, Highland Golf and Supper Club, both at Hutchinson. Larry loved to fly his plane, fish and travel with his friends. Poker night with his buddies was something he always looked forward to. The last several years he loved going to the dog track in Wichita to pick the winners. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II serving as an airline crew chief.

On Aug. 28, 1952, he married Shirley Joy Anderson in Alton. She died Oct. 20, 1995.

Survivors include: three sisters-in-law, Enid Barnt, Edith Lang and Marie Lang.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion and Howard.

Memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Bones Nay presiding. Cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Hutchinson, in care of the funeral home.
