Soldiers' Home Notes
John D. Van Houton died Saturday morning in the brick hospital after an illness of many months. He served in the civil war as a private in Company B, Fifth Illinois cavalry and served 49 months. Mr. Van Houton came to the Home Oct. 3, 1906. He leaves a wife who is a member of the Home and four daughters and two sons from Kearney who attended the funeral held yesterday. Rev. Sarber preached the funeral sermon. The deceased was 70 years of age and had many friends here.
