Caroline (Hart) Curtis was born in New York. Her father's first name is unknown. Her mother was Marinda (maiden name unknown). It is assumed that her mother and father moved to Wisconsin where Mr. Hart died. Marinda, Caroline's mother, then married David J. Sanders in July of 1856.

David J. Sanders had moved with his wife, Susannah Wakefield, and family of 11 children from New York in about 1849. Susannah died on August 6, 1850.

The 1860 Census shows David & Marinda Sanders household consisted of Caroline (Hart), age 16, Ann, age 14, Emma, age 12, and Chauncy, age 14. Ann, Emma, & Chauncy were David's children from his first marriage.

We believe that Caroline died shorty after marrying a Mr. Curtis. The year of birth is believe to be about 1846 because Caroline's grave stone inscription reads "Aged 19 Years".
