My maternal grandmother~~~~

This is my Mom's mother, and the grandma we never knew. My Mom was just 3 when her mother died.

My grandmother died during childbirth at her home, along with her newborn daughter. This would have been her 4th child. Mother and child were buried together, the baby cradled in her mother's arms.

A local lady, who is now nearly 90, sang at this funeral when she was just 7 years old. She told us that it haunts her to this day because she peered into the casket and saw mother and child together.

The visitation for Nellie Perrine and her baby daughter was held in the family home. Our mother told us that she was lifted up to look inside the casket at her mother and sister. She said after she saw them, she ran and hid in the closet. That was her last memory of her mother. A sad story. I wish could have known my grandmother. She probably would have made a huge difference in our lives.
