How strikingly sad is it sometimes realized that "in the midst of life we are in death." The designs of God are wonderful to contemplate. It seems so strange that He should pluck the brightest, most beautiful flower, while all around are standing drooping and faded roses.

Miss Camie Carter, a lovely young girl of seventeen summers, was stricken down by death, passing away last Monday surrounded by a house full of loving and mourning friends,

Only one short week ago she seemingly had every prospect of a long and useful life.

Her sickness, which was short, was borne with christian-like fortitude.

Everything that loving hands could do was done, but with a song on her lips "she left this vale of tears."

While we deeply regret her separation from us, yet we do rejoice in her beautiful life and christian death. Her loving face we will never-more see, but her sacred memory will ever live in the hearts of those who loved her, and the sunset of her life will furnish food for thought for her hear friends who are yet walking the earth.

She is sleeping, calmly sleeping,

In a new made grave today.

We are weeping, sadly weeping,

For the darling gone away.

She is singing, sweetly singing,

Mid the fairest flowers of light,

In the garden spot of Eden,

Where the blossoms know no blight,

She is waiting, ever waiting,

For the friends she loved the best,

And she'll gladly hail their coming

To the mansions of the blest.

One by one the Savior gathers

Minstrels for his own.

And Camie has joined the chorus

Of the angels round the throne.

One by one the Lord will call us,

As our labor here is done,

And when we shall cross the river,

We may meet her, one by one.
