Abram Newcomb was born in Halifax County, Nova Scotia. He was 6'1'', light complexion, gray eyes, light hair, and working as a bricklayer when he enlisted in the 1st Maine three month infantry. After his term with the first he enlisted in the 17th US Federal Infantry five days later on 10 Aug 1861. He died of disease in hospital at New York City.
