FUNERAL OF GEORGE D. FORD
Officials of Bank and Church Will Be Pallbearers at Services Today
Funeral services for George Dempster Ford will be held at the family home, 2828 Forest Avenue, at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. The Rev. Frank S. Arnold, past of the First Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Ford has been a member since 1886, will deliver the funeral address. The honorary pallbearers will include all officers and directors of the Southwest National Bank of Commerce and the active pallbearers have been chosen from among Mr. Ford's church friends.
Mr. Ford was of humble Scotch peasant parentage and then rose to the position as a directing factor in one of the large financial institutions in Kansas City. He was born in the north of Scotland on February 9, 1837, and came to America when he was 19 years old. From New York he went to Orangeville, Ontario, and later to Mount Carroll, Illinois. While living in Mount Carroll he acquired extensive ranch interests in the Panhandle of Texas and in New Mexico.
In Texas Mr. Ford became associated with David T. Beals and the two later established the Union National Bank in Kansas City. Mr. Ford was a director of the Union National until it was consolidated with the National Bank of Commerce. He was elected first vice-president of the consolidated bank, remaining in that position until the time of his death.
Mr. Ford was married twice. His first wife died in Kansas City in 1901, and he was married to Anna Foster in 1902. The widow, two sisters and two brothers survive him. The sisters and brothers are: Miss Harriett Ford and James P. Ford of Carnoustie, Scotland, and Mrs. Annie Walker and David Ford of Park River, N.D.
The burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
