According to his military records, Samuel G. Knowlton was born circa 1816 in Northwood, Rockingham Co., New Hampshire. If this is correct, it's a very strong possibility that he may be a descendant of Thomas (1708-1774) and Amy (1714-1791) Knowlton. Their sons Jonathan, Thomas and Ebenezer settled the Northwood area. (a sketch of this family can be found in History of Nottingham, Deerfield, and Northwood; Elliott Colby Cogswell, J.B. Clarke, 1878 - Deerfield [N.H.] - 790 pages)
