Carsten L. Anderson, 88, of Barron, Wisconsin died Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at his home in Barron, WI. He was born November 22, 1924, at Barron, WI, the son of Martin and Selma (Hanson) Anderson. He was the third of four children.

He married Phyllis Gerland of Rice Lake on July 10, 1949 at Rice Lake, WI. Carsten grew up in Barron and graduated from Barron High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII and attended St. Olaf College.

Carsten was a long time businessman of the Barron Community. In 1947 Carsten returned to the family business, and with his brother Norman became the third generation to operate M.L. Anderson & Sons, a farm and International Harvester implement store.

Over the years Carsten received many business awards along with plaques from Case International to mark 75 years of business. M.L. Anderson and Sons continued business until their 92nd year in 2007. Carsten was a member of First Lutheran Church in Barron, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, and served on numerous committees including: property committee, Men's Bible Study, the committees for the proposal and purchase of the present pipe organ and grand piano in the church sanctuary, and chairman of the committee for the building of Luther Hall.
He was a member of Federal Savings and Loan board of directors, active assistant in the Boy Scouts of America, and Kiwanis Club member.

Surviving are a son, Craig (Ruth) Anderson of Barron, Wisconsin, daughters, Lorri (Dave) Hedlund of St. Michael, MN, Kari (Randal) VanNatta of Wausau, WI; seven grandchildren: Christopher Anderson of Washington D.C., Bjorn Anderson of Portland, OR, John Hedlund of St. Michael, MN, Jason (Beth) Hedlund of Lake Elmo, MN, Julie (John) Rausch of North Hollywood, CA, Kaia VanNatta of Columbia Falls, MT, Eric VanNatta of Stevens Point, WI; and beloved friend, Lauretta Peterson of Barron, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Phyllis, two sisters, Harriet Edson and Norlyn Moberg, and one brother, Norman Anderson. Visitation will be held from 4-7pm, Sunday, November 24 at Rausch & Steel Funeral Home in Barron, WI and one hour prior to services at the church. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, November 25, at First Lutheran Church in Barron, WI. Rev. Steven Timm officiating, with burial at Wayside Cemetery in Barron, WI. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Barron, WI.
