Ellsworth Graham
Visitation for Ellsworth M. Graham, 87, will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Graham, who was born in Spokane, died March 7. He was a lifelong resident of Spokane.
He worked for Armour Meat Co. as a salesman before going to work for Morrison Knudson out of Boise. He was working on building a government air strip on Wake Island in 1941 when he was taken prisoner by the Japanese. He spent 44 months in Chinese and Japanese prison camps.
After Mr. Graham was released and returned home, he started the Ellsworth Franklin Fur Store with his business partner, Frank Burns. The company later merged with Spokane Fur, which was owned by Mr. Graham's father. He left the fur business in 1960 to work in home building and also worked in land development with his friend, Virgil Miller. He built homes in Spokane, Pullman, St. John, Sprague and Fairfield, Wash.
Mr. Graham was a longtime member of the El Katif Shrine, the El Katif Chanters, Manito Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite, Spokane Chapter of the American Ex-Prisoners of War, and the Survivors of Wake, Guam and Cavite. He had also been involved in the Central Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris; two daughters, Roberta Dennie of Spokane and Linda Boston of Renton, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.
