Member, 21st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry Company K

James Andrew Monroe Clymer joined Co. K of the 21st Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Feb 15 1864. He was five feet, ten inches tall with grey eyes, a light complexion and brown hair. While in training at Camp Chase, Ohio, he was wounded in the abdomen by a pistol shot but survived and on 4 Jun 1864, he joined the regiment on the Atlanta Campaign. James fought with the regiment at the Battles of Kennesaw Mountain, Vinings Station on July 9-10, 1864 and the Battles of Atlanta, and on 1 Sep 1864 at the Battle of Jonesboro, just south of Atlanta.
(Taken from OCWGJ, Vol. XII, 2008, pp. 41-45)
He died in Atlanta, Georgia Sept 26 1864.

His stone is mistakenly inscribed Company I, but regimental rosters show him in Company K.
On James' mother's gravestone in Clymer Cemetery, Hancock County, Ohio, his name is inscribed. Research has determined he is not buried there but was probably added to honor him.

James is a birth ancestor of mine. I recently found the family after years of wondering about my ancestors.
