Daniel Doom, age 72, of St. Leo passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his home only 2 ½ weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo with Father Tony Hesse as celebrant. Visitation will be at Birk Funeral Home in Canby on Wednesday from 1 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. and Rosary to follow. Visitation will continue 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. at Birk Funeral Home on Thursday. Burial will be at St. Leo Catholic Cemetery, St. Leo.

Daniel Henry Doom was born May 12, 1937 to Henry and Clare (Cauwels) Doom in Marshall, Minnesota. He was baptized, received his First Holy Communion, and confirmed at Holy Redeemer in Marshall. He attended Holy Redeemer School in Marshall.

On November 26, 1958, he married Rose Marie Lozinski at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Taunton, Minnesota. They farmed all their married life except for three years in California. He worked with farm organizations in the 60's and 80's.

He was an active member of St. Leo Catholic Church in St. Leo. He was an usher and held offices on the Education Board and Parish Council.

He enjoyed restoring antique tractors, teaching his children and grandchildren mechanics and farming. He especially enjoyed dealing in used equipment with his twin brother, Denis. Daniel had a gift of being able to visit with anyone he met. Most of all grandpa enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and they loved spending time with him.

Grateful for having shared Daniel's life is his loving wife Rose of Canby; five children: Conrad (Hope) Doom of Canby; Brenda (Leroy) Full of Canby and children Daniel (Ann), Stephan, Allison, Lindsay, Christian, Alexander, and Nicholas; Cheryl (Loren) Giese of Clear Lake, SD and children Cordell, Wyatt, Logan and Amelia; Rhonda (Mark Ellison) Weidert of Canby and children Samantha Jo, Michael, and Kaylen; Brian Doom of Canby and children Beau and Miranda; one great grandson, Chase; four sisters: Carolyn (Ralph) Hieb of Granite Falls; Charlene (Charles) Streff of Canby; Marce (Robert) Hemming of Shoreview; Mary Lynn (Richard) Williams of Brooklyn Park; brothers George (Suzanne) Doom of Perham; Kevin (Julie) Doom of Canby; Joachim Doom of Phoenix, AZ; one aunt Edna Louwagie; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Clare; son Danny Jo; twin brother, Denis; brother Roger, and great grandchild Peyton Full.
