Susan Pierce Lash, daughter of William and Sarah Pierce was born in Virginia on the 14th day of March 1826; with her parents coming to Indiana in the thirties; married to Samuel D. Lash March 31st 1842, becoming one of the pioneer settlers of Blue River Township in this county. She was the mother of five children: James W. Lash, David H. Lash, and Lida A. Nay, who survive her; and Elizabeth Hays, and Nancy Branigin, both deceased. Since her husband’s death in 1887, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. John S. Nay. For many years an invalid, she received the untiring devotion and loving attentions of her daughter. She was a strong character, full of the courage, industry and self-sacrifice of the pioneer mothers.
Funeral at Young’s Creek Christian Church, Friday afternoon at 2:00. Burial in the family burying ground at Amity, Rev. D. O. Coy conducting the religious exercises.
