Epidemic Suddenly Assumes Malignant Form Which
Results in Alarming Death Rate--Greatest Fatalities Among
Youthful Persons in Perfect Health

Clarence Morton, a young farmer, living 12 miles north of Goodland passed away Monday of this week, being stricken after he had aided night and day in nursing members of his family who had been ill for the past ten days. This death is another which touches the deepest sympathy of the residents of the county, as this young man is survived by a wife and five small daughters.

Clarence Edgar Morton was born in Meigs county, Ohio, February 2, 1883. He came with his parents to Decatur county, Kansas, at the age of ten months. He was educated in the public schools of Decatur county, and afterwards became a very able instructor in the school work of the county. He was married to Miss Bertha Wolf of Oberlin, May 25, 1906. They came to Sherman county in March 1908, and settled on a farm on Beaver creek about 12 miles northeast of Goodland. He died Monday, Oct. 14, 1918, aged 35 years, 10 months and 14 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss a wife, five daughters, a father, a mother, four sisters, and five brothers.

Interment was made in the Bassettville cemetery Tuesday, Oct. 15. A large assemblage of Mr. Morton's former neighbors and friends were present at the funeral, the pall bearers being six of his old school mates.
