Vera Pearl Davis Awtrey, 89, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on Friday, July 10, 2009, surrounded by her family.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Friday at Western Hills Church of Christ, 8800 Chapin Road, Fort Worth. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Pearl was born April 24, 1920, in Bromide, Okla., to Nannie Isabelle and Thomas Edgar Davis. Pearl was the youngest of five children, including Opal, Jewel, Ashley and Ruby. She graduated salutatorian of her high school in Apache, Okla., in 1939. She married Oran Baron Awtrey on Sept. 6, 1941, and they settled in 1949 in Fort Worth, where they raised three children. She was known as an avid quilter, along with gardening, sewing, crocheting and making her delicious rolls. But she will be remembered most for her unwavering faith in Christ, her loving devotion to her family and her precious smile.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and daughter, Carolyn Hatfield.
Survivors: Husband of 67 years, Oran "O.B." Awtrey; son, Allan Awtrey and wife, Cathy; daughter, Karen Davis and husband, Barry; son-in-law, Creighton Hatfield; grandchildren, Bobby, Karey, Allan, Bryan, Craig, Diane and Adam; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces, Evelyn Michel and Ramona June Brigmond.
