Born in Lake George (Township) in Stearns County, MN; William John was the eighth of nine children born to Albert & Elizabeth (Hens) Weisser. William served as a private in the 8th Company of the 181st Oregon Depot Brigade in WW-I {9/5/1918 to 1/28/1919}. William also was a TEC3 in the US Army during WW-II; having enlisted on 15 May 1942.

On 6 August 1927, William married Caroline Elizabeth Weinmann in Stearns County, MN; he was age 30, she was 23. Caroline was the youngest of nine children born to John & Mathilda (Becker) Weinmann.
