He was a lifelong resident of Winnfield, a retired farmer, and member of the Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 27, 1970, at the Sardis Baptist Church with Rev. Henry T. Mott, Rev. C. W. Jones, Rev. C. C. Martin, and Bro. Eugene F. Love officiating. Interment was in the Brown Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dan M. Roberts of Winnfield; two sons, Charles A. Barton of Lafayette and Virgil Barton of Thibodaux; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Tidwell of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home and Mrs. Jim Collins of Sulphur; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were nephews of the deceased, Dewitt Collins, Roy Collins, Marlin Collins, Roy Collins, Marlin Collins, Sam Tidwell, Frank Barton, and E. B. Barton.
