KATHLEEN MARGARET (KAY) HOGAN
May 04, 1999

Kathleen Margaret Hogan, 78, of Rainycrest Home for the Aged, Fort Frances, Ont., passed away Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at her residence.

Kay was born Feb. 7, 1921 in Fort William, Ont. to the late Joseph and Agnes Shanahan. She was the youngest of four children. On Dec. 22, 1945, she married Andrew Roy (Andy) Hogan at Fort William, and they moved to Fort Frances.

While raising a young family of three children, Kay assisted her husband, Andy, in several business endeavors, the most notable being Andy's Candy land. Later, she clerked at a number of retail stores, the last being Sears.

Kay was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary, the Catholic Women's League, and the La Verendrye Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed curling, playing cards (especially Bridge), and knitting.

Kay had a talent to transform a house into a home, beautifying each successive one with countless flowers and a "woman's touch." Together with her husband, Andy, wherever they moved or lived, at Rainy River or Fort Frances or Reef Point, they made new friends and treasured old friendships, and remained devoted to their family.

She had a certain open vulnerableness,

Yet possessed a certain inner strength.

Struggling where many might not,

But never failing to try.

In her final days and hours.

She revealed the greatest courage,

And gave the greatest love.

God grant her peace, and eternal rest.

Kay was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, on Feb. 25, 1998; one brother, Jim Shanahan; and two sisters, Dorothy Chadburn and Doris Shanahan.

Kay is survived by her three children, Jim Hogan and wife, Sandy (Tolen) and their son, Steve, all of Wallaceburg, Ont.; Susan and husband, Allen Dahl, and their sons, Michael, Matthew, and Lindsey, all of Portage La Prairie, Man.; and Dave, of Fort Frances.

A funeral service, officiated by Father Ed Kosa O.M.I., was held Friday, May 7, 1999 at 1 p.m. at Green Funeral Home in Fort Frances. Interment took place Monday, May 10, 1999 at Mountain View Cemetery in Thunder Bay.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold and Irene Herrem, Charles and Mary Stuart, Anne Eustace, Laura Mitchell, Florence Bonner, Audrey Thomson, and Martha Allan.

In memoriam donations may be made to Rainycrest Home for the Aged, or the charity of your choice.
