Frances Boyden was born on May 12,1834 in Guilford, VT. His father was Henry Boyden (born June 4, 1804) and his mother was Orpha Marsh Boyden,(born May 24, 1806.) His parents were married in Guilford, Vermont.
The family moved to Waupaca County, Wisconsin some time after Francis was born. What brought them to Wisconsin is unknown, but there is record that they had farm land in Wapauca County in Wisconsin prior to the Civil War.
Frances was the oldest of 4. He had one brother and two sisters. (2) Emma A. born July 18, 1840. She married David C. Barker at Rhinelander, WI in 1867. (3) Mary Love, born April 1, 1842, and she married George Hayward in Royalton, WI in 1867. Frank's brother was (4) William Herbert, born April 11, 1848.
Francis married Mary Emeline Darling on July 1, 1869, in Royalton, Wapauca County, Wisconsin by a Rev. M. L. Eastman,. Francis was much older than Mary. They married four years after the Civil War ended and she would've been about 20, in 1879.
I've found many variations of the spelling of her name. Some were "Emmaline" and that was the spelling on her death certificate. But "Emeline" is the spelling in her depositions that I obtained from the National Archives.
They had 3 children all boys. The oldest was Frank Edson Boyden born April 12, 1870. (2) Alonzo M. born May 17, 1878 and (3) Guy Lee born February 17, 1885.
The first two boys were born in Wisconsin. After they were born the family moved to Brookings, S.D, and Guy was born in White, South Dakota. Francis and Mary moved to an area about six miles northeast from where White, South Dakota is now. Guy Lee told my mother that he was actually born in White, which contradicts some documentation I have found.
Frank later married Maude Eva Hegeman. Alonzo married a woman named Maude also, but I have no information on this. Guy married Zella Marie Thompson in Sept. 1917,
