Formerly of Andover, Mary passed away on Palm Sunday at Salem Haven Nursing Home, Salem, NH of pancreatic cancer. She had been a resident of Salem for the past several years. She was born and raised in Andover where she also resided for most of her adult life. She worked for many years as a packer and inspector at Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington and later as an inspector for Octocom Systems, also in Wilmington until she retired. Mary was married November 29th, 1953 at St. Theresa's Church in North Reading, MA to the late Roland Clarence Deschenes who passed away May 27, 1987 (Sacred Heart Cemetery - Andover). Following the death of her husband Roland, Mary then shared her life with the late John "Jack" Hagerty, who passed on March 27, 2003 (St. Augustine's Cemetery - Andover).
Mary is survived by three daughters, Cheryl and her husband John Petch, Karen and her husband Ronald Deveau, and Joan and her husband James Bourgeois; three sons, Ronald and his wife Laurie (Peck), Richard (Deschenes) Oaks and his wife Lisa (Dubino), and Gary and his partner Matthew LeMaster; 13 grand children and 3 great grand children. She is also survived by one brother, Francis. Mary was preceded in death by a sister Eleanor and three brothers, Reginald, Roland and Clarence.
The family received friends from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Massachusetts. A Prayer Service was held on Wednesday evening, March 19, 2008, at 8PM in the funeral home. Mary's dying wish was to be cremated and buried in both St. Augustine's Cemetery with her parents and longtime partner Jack, as well as in Sacred Heart Cemetery also in Andover with her husband Roland.
Her ashes were buried in St. Augustine's Cemetery on April 9, 2008 and on October 25, 2008 at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
