LeNoir Asay September 6, 1925 - September 26, 2004
Lenoir Asay, 79, died Sept. 26, 2004, in Bountiful, Utah, from pneumonia.
LeNoir Asay was born September 6, 1925, the first born of six children to Joseph and Estella LeGene (McArthur) Asay in Delta, Millard County, Utah where his father worked for Grandpa McArthur on a farm. After a short while, they moved back to Lovell and lived their until their death. Five more siblings blessed this home, Robert (Bob), Douglas, Roger, Diane and Myra.
Lenoir attended the local Lovell schools and was drafted into the Navy before completing high school. He graduated with his class, 1943. He was a clerk for the Navy because of his excellent typing skills and with his honorable discharge, went to BYU in Utah and then served a mission in France for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He received schooling on the GI bill and spent five years studying in France and Italy. He was the first American to graduate with a master's degree in music from the Conservatory of Music in Nice, France.
He never married. He accepted a teaching job in Parawon, Utah where he taught music and band for several years. LeNoir made his way back home to teach in Byron and loved working with the church in directing musicals, plays and anything that involved music. All of his performances were extraordinary. He loved playing the piano and singing for church functions, weddings, funerals, etc. His happiest times were involved around people and music.
He spent his summers back here at home where he enjoyed visiting his relatives, especially Aunt Delsa, playing Skipbo. He moved to California where he taught school until he retired at 70 years of age. He had many friends and loved performing in long Beach, Calif. He spent winters in Guadalajara, Mexico where he enjoyed the sunshine and made many friends. He lived with the McClures for many years. He spent time on the ship Wabash teaching the Navy boys and had a great opportunity to travel to many places in many parts of the world.
LeNoir spent his last few years with his niece in Utah, enjoying the Senior Center and making many friends there. They enjoyed his playing the piano, and he enjoyed visits from family and friends.
LeNoir is survived by his two brothers, Doug Asay (Dorothy) and Roger Asay and two sisters, Diane Jewell (Calvin) and Myra Sessions (Larry), and three aunts, Minette Earl, Delsa Rounds and Carmen McArthur. LeNoir is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and LeGene, and one brother, Robert (Bob).
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the Lovell LDS Church. Burial followed in the Lovell Cemetery.
