Spouse: James Willard Munson
-------------------------
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the L.D.S. church at Circleville for Mrs. Eliza Munson, 91 one of the first settlers in Piute County, who died Wednesday at the home of a son in McGill, Nevada. Funeral services were held in Ely, Nevada Thursday.
Mrs. Munson was born to James T. and Eliza Manwaring Allred in Salt Lake February 28 1848. She was married to James W. Munson in Salt Lake, in 1863, and they came to Circleville the same year. Driven out by the Indians during the raids that occurred at that time, they returned in 1888. Mrs. Munson lived in McGill the past three years. She is survived by five sons and one daughter, S.P. Munson, of McGill; Clarence Munson, of Duckwater, Nevada; Brigham Munson, of Ely, Nevada; Louis Munson of Escalante, John Munson of Fielding and Mrs. Eliza Hayward of Bountiful; a sister, Mrs. Diantha Allred, and two brothers, Edward and Brigham Allred, all of Spring City; a half-brother, Kimball Allred of Salt Lake; two half-sisters, Mrs. Melinda Griffiths of Salt Lake and Mrs. Lavinia Robinson of Spring City, 113 great-grandchildren. She was a faithful worker in the L.D.S. church, in which she held a number of offices in Relief Society and Sunday School.
Speakers at the services were Bishop James L. Whittaker, D. Fullmer and Henry Sudweeks of Circleville; her grandson, James Munson of Tropic, and Ben Cameron of Panguitch. Musical numbers were given by Mrs. Ina Chamberlain and Mrs. Beryl Whittaker, vocalists, and Judd Haycock, violinist, and the Relief Society Singing Mothers. The opening prayer was given by Ray Westwood. Joseph Betenson gave the benediction, and William Robinson dedicated the grave in the Circleville cemetery. Pallbearers were sons of Mrs. Munson. Sixty relatives from Nevada and Utah attended the services, and many eulogies were paid by the speakers to Mrs. Munson's long and useful life, and her devotion to her religion.
