In a personal letter written to Mary Heater Shadduck 1 Dec, 1971 John Methany gives a little history about his parents Frank Methany and Mary Ann Moore Parker Methany.
Frank Methany, father of John, was born in Polk County, Wisc. They later moved to Iowa. Frank came to S.E. Kansas as a young man. Later his parents moved there too. They hired on the place now owned by Dale and Fern Seaman. Fern would be their Gr. Granddaughter. While here he married Mary Ann Moore Parker. Frank and Mary Ann lived at Sedan, Kans.; and Tasco, Kans., They went by covered wagon over the Rocky Mts., twice.
Remarks by John Methany: Mary Ann Moore was born in Kentucky. She and her family moved to Kingston, Misouri, then moved back to Kentucky. Here she met and married Hugh Parker. They had one daughter, Maletha Rosell. Hugh and Mary came to S.E. Kansas shortly after their marriage. Hugh contracted Tuberculosis. Hugh and Mary Ann moved moved back to Kentucky where Hugh died. Mary Ann returned to Kans. where she married Frank Metheny. They were married in 1881. Frank and Mary Ann had nine children. At this date December 1, 1971, four boys and one girl are still alive.
Now we do know through family history that Hugh and Frank had a Freight line service in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma before Hugh returned to Kentucky. We also know that many of the Metheny's and Moores are buried in Southern Kansas.
