Funeral for Jani Marie Hawkey, 14, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Letitia Baptist Church with the Rev. Roy Lanten, youth pastor, and the Rev. Jerry Evans, pastor, officiating.

Jani died Monday, July 6, 2009, in Lawton.

Burial will be at Letitia Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

She was born Feb. 17, 1995, in Lawton, to Gina Hawkey. She grew up east of Lawton and attended Park Lane Elementary School and Central High of Marlow, where she was an honor student. She attended Storey and Barton Dance Studio from age 4 until the present and studied tap, ballet, and character dancing. Her favorite dance style was jazz. She danced in numerous recitals and was in the "Nutcracker" produced by SODA (Southwest Oklahoma Dance Association.) She performed at Lawton Arts For All and "Cinderella" produced by Lawton City Ballet. She played the flute in Central High Band. She was a member of 4-H and had been voted the reporter. She showed dogs, rabbits, and horses with 4-H. She received the Oklahoma Waterboard Conservation Essay Contest Award presented by the Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma. She played basketball and softball and was treasurer of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was also a member of Letitia Baptist Church.

Survivors include her mother, of the home; her grandparents, Lewis and Veda Hawkey, of the home; aunts and uncles: Alan Hawkey, Darrel Hawkey, DJ and Franklin Powell, Janet and Tim Stephens, and Kevin and Elizabeth Hawkey; cousins: Jody Stephens, Crystal and John Childers, Clint Powell, Keith Powell, Trent Powell, Sara Hawkey, and Parker Childers; special friends: Randy, Ranay, Jennifer, and Billy; and many other close family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her cousin, Errol Hawkey.
