Evelyn M. "Susie" Wenthold, age 96, died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005 at the Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, IA.
Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 1 from 4-8 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 2 from 10 a.m. at the Schmitz Funeral Home.
Vigil service was Sunday, Jan. 1 at 4 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 2 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Ossian, IA with Msgr. Cletus Hawes officiating.
Gifts were given by her grandchildren and they also served as readers. Organist was Diane Stee and song leader was Arlene Brockman.
Casketbearers were her grandchildren.
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court No. 983 were in honorary attendance.
Interment was in St. Francis Cemetery, Ossian, IA.
Evelyn Margaret Wenthold was born July 28, 1909 in Winneshiek County, near Festina, IA the daughter of Henry and Christine (Spalla) Rothmeyer.
She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church in Festina.
On November 5, 1929, she was united in marriage to Albert Wenthold at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church by the late Rev. A.J. Rubly. They became the parents of five children.
They farmed five miles southwest of Ossian for 39 years. In 1968, they retired and moved to Ossian. For the last eight years, she had been a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice.
She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church and the Rosary Society, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Senior Citizens' Club. In earlier days, she enjoyed gardening, flowers, cooking, sewing, embroidery, crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include her children: Gerald Wenthold of Rushford, MN; Arlene (Joseph) Thuente of Ackley, IA; Helen Hoefer of Fairbank, IA; Germaine (Orville) Hanken of Maple Grove, MN, and James (Mary Jane) Wenthold; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one sister, Eleanor Jennings, Austin, MN.
Evelyn Margaret Wenthold was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert, in 1991; one grandson; seven brothers: Florian, Charles, Frank, Hubert, Henry, Edwin and Gregory Rothmeyer, one son-in-law, Daniel Hoefer and one daughter-in-law, Barbara Wenthold.
