Our Pioneer Heritage, Vol. 18, p. 131 - Elijah Knapp Fuller was born June 13, 1811, at Windham, Green County, New York. When he was 20 years of age, he married Harriet Loomis. Before they were able to come West, Harriet died leaving Elijah with three little boys. His second marriage was to Kathryn Walker. After arriving in the Salt Lake Valley, Elijah hauled granite slabs with an ox team from the Cottonwood area to the site of the Salt Lake Temple. In 1856, he was called, along with his 3rd wife, Ellen Celeste, to go to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was here that their third child Zilpha was born in a wagon box. While Elijah had gone to San Bernardino with a freight team, a crafty Indian slipped inside the mud wall of the fort one evening. He picked up the two-week-old baby from a crude little cradle made from a hewn out tree trunk and tossed her from one shoulder to the other chanting an Indian song as he moved his feet in the semblance of a dance, toward the gate. He was stopped by the guard and ordered to put the baby back in her mothers arms....
Elijah died in Leeds, Washington County, Utah, December 27, 1897 and is buried there.
