Retired Army Maj. Jeffrey Phillips Barnard, 72, of Bonita died Jan. 1. He was born in Cleveland. Maj. Barnard was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and past president of the Bonita Friends of the Library.

Survivors include his wife, Mariana; daughter, Susan Barnard; sons, Jeffrey C. Barnard of Santa Rosa and William Barnard of South Bend, Ind.; stepdaughters, Jill Guidry and Sue Barnard; stepson, Gerald Oliveira; brothers, Peter C. Barnard of Yarmouth, Maine; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
