Dean Alfred Boyer, Sr., 91, of Altoona died Friday at his home.

He was born in Bellefonte, son of the late Issac and Pearl (Mundorf) Boyer. He married Virginia Leona Myers in 1946 in Baltimore, Md. She preceded him in death in October 2008.

Surviving are six children: Dean Boyer Jr. and wife, Donna, in Georgia, Sharon Gilliland, Kathy Williams, Paul Boyer and wife, Lisa, Dale Boyer and Michelle Baker and husband, Bernard, all of Altoona; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Vic Boyer of Gary, Ind.; a sister, Lisa Mines of Coltsneck, N.J., as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul L. Boyer Jr., and a great-grandson, Thomas Allen Brumbaugh.

Dean was a graduate of Bellefonte High School.

He retired from Conrail in 1975 after many years of service.

Dean loved baseball, dancing, swimming, watching bowling on TV and spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., Juniata, where a funeral service will be held at noon Wednesday.

Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park, Bellwood.
