Augustus married Elida Pooler at Morenci, Lenawee Co. Michigan on Aug. 12, 1880. His Michigan death certificate gives a year of birth of 1848. Beginning in 1875, he became publisher of the 'State Line Observer' at Morenci Michigan along with his younger brother, Vernon. The name of the newspaper was eventually changed to the 'Morenci Observer'. and was still published by the Allen brothers for a number of years.
