Samuel Venable was married to Elizabeth Travis Carrington, daughter of Edward Jones Carrington & Sarah A.A. Thornton. They had 5 children: Edward Carrington, Sarah Thornton, Kate McGhee, Nathaniel, & Josephine.
He was a Trustee of Hampden-Sydney College and a Tobacco Mfg.

Captain Samuel W. Venable, one of Petersburg’s wealthiest and most prominent tobacconists, died yesterday evening. Captain Venable was one of the best-known men in Virginia. He was born near Farmville. Three children survive him, one ex-Congressman, Edward C. Venerable.
