(Maria) Catherina was born in Möse, Westphalia, Prussia (modern-day Germany) to Johann Georg Herman Morfeld and Anna Maria Gertrud "Gessina" Haselhorst. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1851.

Catherina was married to Heinrich Joseph Adrian on Nov. 26, 1867, in Osage Co., Missouri, and they had nine children. Heinrich also had four children from his previous marriage to Maria Gerthrud Elisabeth Winkelmann.
