Death of Mark E Amsden
Life-Long Resident expires today at 73
Services for Well-Known Retired Farmer will be held Saturday Afternoon
Mark Earnest Amsden, 73, member of an early-day prominent Jasper county family and native of northwest of Carthage, died at 5:40 o'clock this morning in McCune Brooks Hospital.
In failing health the last four years, Mr Amsden had been seriously ill the last month. He was moved to the hospital six days ago from the Amsden home, 1101 South Maple street.
Mark Amsden was born November 25, 1883 on the Amsden farm, four miles northwest of Carthage, where his parents Mr and Mrs L C Amsden, settled when they first came to this county. The son, Mark, grew up there, attended school in that community and continued to make his home on the Amsden place until four years ago when his health failed and he and Mrs Amsden moved in Carthage. In his early life Mr Amsden farmed. Later he devoted his time to his garden and was an aplarist.
On March 17, 1917 he and Miss Luella Wakefield were married in Carthage.
Mr Amdsen was a member of the First Christian church.
Surviving are his wife;two brothers R C Amsden, Maplewood, Mo and L K Amsden, River Forest Illinois; two sisters, Mrs Minnie Reeves, Miami FL and Mrs Lyra Blackman Neosho and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday at the Ulmer funeral home. Forrest Bailey, minister of the First Christian church will officiate. The body will be taken by the Ulmers to Kansas City for cremation, after which the ashes will be placed in the family lot in Fairview cemetery, northwest of Carthage.
