Alta L. Beilke, 90, Fargo, ND, formerly Buffalo, ND, died on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Elim Care Center, Fargo.
Alta Lucille Wilcox was born February 5, 1925 on the family farm at Ayr, ND to Harry and Lena (Wode) Wilcox. She was the youngest of four children. She grew up on the family farm and attended school at Ayr, North Dakota, graduating in 1943. She attended Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota for two years and earned her teaching certificate. She taught school in Ayr, Erie, and West Fargo, North Dakota before she was married.
Alta married Burnell (Bud) Beilke of Buffalo, ND on September 2, 1948 at the parsonage of St. John's Lutheran Church of Embden, ND. Bud farmed with his father for 4 years. They lived on the Henry and Hattie Beilke farm for 2 years and then moved to the A. W. Mohr farm on the east edge of Buffalo for 2 years. In 1953 they moved to their farm north of Buffalo. They raised three children. For 42 years, they operated a dairy and diversified farming operation. In 1993 they sold the dairy cattle and semi-retired. They remained on the farm until moving to Fargo in 2008. Bud died in December of 2011. Alta moved to the Elim Care Center in 2013.
Alta was a member of Buffalo Lutheran Church, Master Gardeners, Buffalo Historical Society, and North Dakota Dairy Women.
Alta helped on the family farm by doing field work. She liked to keep busy and learn new things. Alta was a good seamstress and taught herself several types of crafts. She loved perennial flowers and grew many plants in her greenhouse. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, and baking, and her grandchildren looked forward to the desserts waiting for them when they arrived at the farm.
History was another of her interests and she worked on many projects for the Buffalo Historical Society. Alta and Bud participated in many community, church, and school activities. Their hobbies included square dancing, and in their retirement years they enjoyed traveling. Alta and Bud were proud of their children and grandchildren and attended many of their activities and school and sporting events over the years.
She is survived by two children; daughter, Nadine (Ron) Roach, Fargo, ND; son, Scott (Deb) Beilke, Valley City, ND; four grandchildren, Neal (Jennifer) Roach, Kevin (Nicole) Roach, Tim Roach and fiancé, Danielle Kennedy, Jason Beilke; four great grandchildren, Paige and Austin Roach; Kaycee Martin and Kennedy Roach; and one sister-in-law, Carol Wilcox of Oxnard, California.
