1909 April 21 The Rockville Republican, Wednesday: Obituary
Abner, son of Andrew and Harriet Chew, was born August 22, 1830: died at his home in Mecca April 15, 1909, age 78 years, 7 months, 23 days.
He was married to Sarah F. Wasson Nov. 11, 1852. To this union were born 12 children - 5 daughters and 7 sons; 3 daughters, 1 son and his wife having preceded him in death, 3 children dying in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Joseph Titsworth of Oklahoma, dying a few years ago.
He leaves to mourn loss 4 daughters, 4 sons, 18 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, the latter being Mrs J.L. Naylor of Montezuma and Mrs. Rebecca Newman of Knoxville, La. The surviving children are John, Charlie and Robert of Terre Haute, James of Oskaloosa, La., Mrs Samuel Phillips, Mrs. Fred Lowe, Mrs. Al Ratcliff and Mrs J.O. Bartlev. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Z.D. Maris at Leatherwood church.
