Otto Arens [1824 – 1905] Chilton Times --- January 16, 1905
Another of the pioneers of New Holstein has joined the silent majority. On Tuesday, Jan. 10, Otto Arens died at the age of 80 years 8 months and 28 days. The deceased was born in Holstein, Germany, Sept 13, 1824. In 1848 he accompanied his parents to America and came direct to New Holstein locating on a tract of 160 acres one mile west of the village. Here he remained for over thirty years and then retired and moved into the village. In 1852 he was married to Miss Kroehnke. Mr. Arens was a man of considerable ability and for ten years held the position of chairman of the town. He was also town clerk for half a dozen years. His genial disposition made him friends among those with whom he came in contact and he was very popular. Some three weeks ago he fell and fractured three ribs which no doubt hastened his death. His funeral will be held Friday afternoon. He leaves a widow and two daughters, Mmes. Ida Muenster and Dora Jacobi.
