1900 census - age 17 - he was living with his parents in Moberly, Randolph County, Missouri and working as a coal miner.

1910 census - age 27 - he was living with his sister, Hattie (BROOKS) PIGG and her husband, in Moberly, and working as a clerk in their grocery store.

1918 WW1 Draft registration - age 34 - he is married to Bessie Pearl (MILLER) and is a grocer (self employed) in Moberly.

1920 census - Clarence, Bessie, and their two-year-old son Billie are living in Moberly. Clarence is 36 and a grocer. Bessie is helping in the store.

12 JUN 1921 daughter Margie May BROOKS was born in Moberly.
