SARAH L. MACKEY

Sarah L. Mackey, daughter of Robert and Susan Davis, was born in Appanoose County, March 25, 1854 and departed this life at the home of her daughter Mrs. Winona Teater, Sunday morning March 31, 1946, aged 92 years and 6 days.

She grew to young womanhood near Confidence and was married to Matthew Mackey September 19, 1871. To this union ten children were born, Mrs. Nettie Aston, who died Jan. 30, 1946; John W. Mackey, who died Feb. 7, 1939; Mrs. Daisy Gookin, Houston, Texas; Robert T. of Jones, Oklahoma; Mrs. Goldie Spencer of Knoxville; Mrs Sadie Stafford of Waterloo, Iowa; Edgar of Glendale, Calif.; James E. of Corydon; Mrs. Winona Teater and Mrs. Pearl Latham living near Russell.

Mrs. Mackey's husband passed away Sept 8, 1930. They lived on their farm north of Bethlehem for over 40 years and moved to Russell in 1915. She lived the greater part of the time since her husband's death with her daughter, Mrs. Pearl Latham.

She accepted Christ as her Saviour when a young woman and dearly loved the word of God giving out many Gospel tracts and papers and tithing her income. She never grew old in spirit and even in her later years learned and recited many scripture verses and poems and could play and sing any song of which she knew the melody.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother, her whole life being one of sacrifice and unselfishness for her family.

She leaves behind her eight children, 22 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one brother, Samuel Davis, of Princeton, Indiana and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Orchard of Chariton, assisted by brother Tom Morlan of Russell, were held at the Woodman funeral home April 3rd at 2:00 o'clock p.m. and interment was made in the Russell cemetery.

The pallbearers were Dave Wright, Asa Price, Lloyd LaFavre, Milton Barker, Bert Hudson and Perry McKinley.
