Services for James Arland ''Nick'' Nichols will be at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Primrose Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM on Monday evening.
James Arland "Nick" Nichols, 74, of Norman, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008 in Norman Regional Hospital.
Nick was born July 22, 1933 in Smithville, Oklahoma, the son of Burl and Nina Nichols. He moved to Norman in 1953 where he worked for the City of Norman for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1991. He was a fixture with the City of Norman Water Department, where it was said that he worked on 70% - 80% of all the water meters in Norman at the time of his retirement.
He is survived by his brother David Mowdy of Idabel, Oklahoma; three sons, Dannie Scott Wade of Goliad, Texas, Burl Harley Nichols of Sacramento, California, and James Arthur Nichols of Dallas, Texas; a granddaughter, Sha Linn Wade of Oklahoma City, and his great-granddaughter Cera Elisabeth Wade.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Nichols. Anyone who knew "Nick" knew him as a good friend and neighbor, as well as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He continues to live within those whose lives he touched. Memorial contributions may be made in Nick's name to the American Heart Association.
