MARY ANNA BARTON
Mary Anna (Barton) Elliot was a native of Rockingham County, Virginia where she first saw the light of day on 7 Jan 1899, the seventh child of Isaac Newton Barton III and Mahala Alice Hottinger. This blessed event was recorded in her father's Bible as follows: Page Three, Family Births - "Mary Annie Barton was born 7 January 1899." Sadly, her death was the second to be entered in the family death section of the said as follows: Page Four, Family Deaths - "Mary Anna Elliott - Wednesday, 28 May 1930, age 31."

Mary was reared in Rockingham county until, at a tender age, the family relocated to Newark, Ohio where she secured fair education in the common schools of the locality. She was a patriotic woman although, she made no effort to secure public preferment for her husband. She was a woman of steady and commendable habits and had the happy faculty of winning friends wherever she went, her friends being in number as her acquaintances.

Mary met the charming Charles Elliot and the couple were united in marriage in 1918. During the next ten years she gave birth to four beautiful daughters, Alice, Betty, Beatrice and Charlotte.

Mary Ann died as a resident of 615 Vinton Street within the city of Toledo, Ohio on 28 May 1930 at the age of thirty-one, just six weeks after appearing on the United States census report. Her death was recorded at the Ohio Bureau of Vital Statistics as Mary Ann Elliot, aged 31 years 4 months 11 days, a white, married female, died 28 May 1930 at 10:15a.m. in Lucas Community Hospital, Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio. Cause of Death: Carcinoma of the Cervix. She was buried 31 May 1930 in Woodlawn Cemetery (Toledo). She was a housewife, the wife of Charles Elliott, and resided at 615 Vinton St., Toledo. Mary was born 17 Jan 1899 in Virginia to Isaac Barton, born in Virginia, and Mahela Hottinger, born in Virginia. Undertaker: Beratucker & Sons, Toledo Ohio. Informant: Margaret B.
